Why I decided to get Earplugs and Concerts and Carnival

I have been to many concerts and music festivals. One of my most memorable experiences is calypso spectacular with Machel Montano.

I remember my friends and I met some women at the show at partied near the stage close to the speakers.

We had the time of our life, however when I got home my ears were ringing intensely. They continued to ring for two weeks afterwards and scared the hell out of me to be honest.

Not only was my hearing impaired for days but it was annoying and made it difficult to sleep. It eventually stopped however, the issue returned every time I went to a party.

This problem occurred especially around Crop Over and after Kadooment day. The loud blazing music of the music trucks caused the ringing to return.

This is when I decided to look into getting some earplugs. Hearing loss is a serious issue with noise induced hearing loss being one of the leading causes. All it takes is one event to cause permanent damage to your ears.

Earplugs are a sure way to protect your ears from the loud music at music festivals, carnivals or concerts.

Why should you wear earplugs to Concerts?

Sound is measured in decibels (db), normal conversation is around 60 db. Any sound above 85 db is harmful. According to the American Hearing Research Foundation noise levels at concerts can exceed 120 db.

This is double the amount of sound in a normal conversation. Prolonged exposure to loud sounds is the leading cause of hearing loss. Loud music exceeding 120 db consistently over a period is risking hearing loss.

Some people’s ears are more sensitive to noise than others are. Therefore one person may be able withstand those noise levels for a long period. However, it may only take one experience for another to develop hearing loss.

I am quite sure many of you including myself have experienced the effects of loud music at concerts. Effects such as ringing in your ears or sounds are muffled after you have left a concert.

Over time this can lead to damage to your hearing. What is worse is if you develop tinnitus from this damage.

What is Tinnitus?

A simple definition for tinnitus is constant ringing or noise in the ear. The noise can be ringing, buzzing or humming. For some people the sounds are minor and heard when background noise is low.

For others the noises are so loud it can interfere with their hearing and ability to concentrate. This in turn affects the ability to sleep, work and quality of life. For some the ringing can come and go for others it is permanent.

What causes Tinnitus?

A number of factors can contribute to tinnitus such as age related hearing loss and health problems. However, one of the main causes of tinnitus is prolonged exposure to loud noise.

Therefore, people who work with loud machinery, musicians and Djs are at risk. This includes anyone in general exposed to loud sounds for a prolonged period.

What Type of Ear Plugs to Buy

Truthfully, you want earplugs that will cancel out the excessive noise but still allow you to hear everything clearly.  Unfortunately, the cheap earplugs usually just muffle everything. When you are at a music festival, concert or carnival that is the last thing, you want.

You also do not want earplugs that are huge, noticeable and stick out your ears.  We all want to protect our hearing but still be fashionable. Therefore, if you want quality you will have to invest in some proper earplugs.

Look for earplugs that are high fidelity or specifically made for concerts or musicians. My list above fits all these requirements and more. They are some of the best earplugs you can purchase for concerts, carnivals or music festivals.

Summary

We all want to take care of our hearing. In addition, we all want to go to carnival and concerts and enjoy the music without affecting our hearing. Ringing in my ears was ok when I was a teenager but as I get older, I see it as a serious issue.

I intend to attend Trinidad Carnival, Crop Over and other carnivals for a long time. Therefore, I need my hearing to enjoy the music and atmosphere and you do as well.

Take my advice invest in some earplugs for concerts and the next music festival. These in-expensive devices help preserve your hearing. I am actually ordering the EarPeace HD Concert Ear Plugs as Crop Over is approaching. As I said earlier these are my favorite from the list.
